WOMENS 5 ON 5

Following the successful staging of the inuagural Women's World Championships in Stockholm in the summer of 2010 The British Universities American Football League announced plans for a pilot women's 5 Versus 5 competition which it intends, over a multi year time frame, to evolve into a National Championships involving teams from universites across the country.

Over the course of Fresher's weeks a number of institutions have been looking to recruit female players to take part in an initial pilot programme which will see an inaugural championships take place in the late Spring / early Summer of 2012.

A small number of universities have been working with the League to explore the creation of women's programmes over the course of the 2011-12 academic year. The League is keen however, to hear from all institutions who have an interest in this area so we can effectively shape our future plans.

The pilot event will see the teams involved play 5 on 5 football and use a youth-sized football.

One of the first steps which universities have looked to take on the path to establishing women's contact teams is to create a women's flag team. The National Flag Championships will also take in the summer of 2012 with details elsewhere on the League website.

All initial contact should be through Andy Fuller (see contacts page).
