This is equivalent to lifting over 15 Boeing 747 Jumbo Jets! In the liftathon last year the team managed 2,000,000kgs and the year before that 530,000kgs , a considerable amount by any standard, but a record they hope to surpass this year.
All the money raised by completing this challenge will go towards the 'Youth Sport Trust', a charity that attempts to build a brighter future for young people through sport and PE. Such work is more invaluable today than ever before, given the current issues regarding childhood obesity and the future health implication this can cause, not to mention the social benefits that organised sporting programs can provide for children.
Andy Fuller, BAFA Director for Student Football Development, applauded the work being done the Bristol Barracuda. ‘Students have a rich history of undertaking a variety of activities to raise money for valuable causes. In supporting the Youth Sport Trust and their work, the ‘Cuda have chosen a tremendous beneficiary and we wish them the very best of luck with their efforts.’
