The University of Greenwich Mariners announced this week their return to Crystal Palace National Sports Stadium for their 2007/2008 home fixtures.

The 27,000 seat venue is arguably one of the best venues in the country for University football.

The Mariners, still only in their 4th season of competitive football, have secured backing from the University to not only use Crystal Palace but also to gain access to a mid week floodlit facility.

"The University is starting to see how well our programme is run," stated Head Coach Matt Coppinger. "Our structured and professional approach gives us credibility within the University's sports setup. We've recruited great coaches and put together an organised pre-season programme. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Iain Metters and Rachel Rogers at the University of Greenwich for their support this year."

The Mariner's season kicks off at home to divisional rivals Essex Blades on 4th November. The game promises fireworks as the Mariners seek revenge for last years 13-0 defeat.

The Mariner's have also confirmed their coaching line up for this coming season. The coaching staff includes a number of Great Britain internationals. Matt Coppinger returns as Head Coach but also takes on the role of Offensive Co-ordinator. Former GB Lions Captain Damian Anderson returns as Defensive Co-ordinator.

GB Internationals Scott Rowe, Nick Crowe, Paul Summers and Clive Palumbo will be coaching defensive backs, offensive line, defensive line and wide receivers respectively. Former US High School coach Mike Callan will be coaching running-backs, while former Aber defensive co-ordinator Ryan Lazenby coaches linebackers. Aber old boy Jon Dyke enters his 2nd year as Special Teams co-ordinator. Nick Wasmuth, Marcus Roome, Sacha Conte and Graeme Blundell round out the staff as coaching assistants.

"I'm extremely pleased to have so many experienced coaches on board," stated Coppinger. "We had a number of coaches step down at the end of last year due to personal commitments. I want to thank them for their commitment and contribution to our young club. We continue to grow though and we're committed to building a competitive programme here. With so many quality coaches I'm know this will provide our student athletes with a top class sporting experience. With the addition of Crystal Palace, this really gives us a premier home game experience."
