Team South have taken a different approach this year, making the programme more about player development. The goal is to use the MVP game as a platform for BUAFL stars to get to the next level. Both teams will be calling plays from the same playbook – the GB Lions playbook. This gives both coaches and players a chance to learn the system and quickly transition into the BAFA National Programme if they so wish.
“The coaches have had an extremely tough time selecting players from the South. The quality this year has been very high on both offense and defense. Our selection criteria really has not been around choosing a number of players, but rather just those who we felt could get the job done at the next level”, Coach Coppinger stated. “We’re very keen to showcase these players to BAFL, GB Lions and professional scouts and so we’re guaranteeing every player at least 1 quarter of football. In addition to this we’re filming the game and distributing it to scouts who can’t make the game. We’re confident the next Jermaine Allen is in our ranks.”
