Following the recent BUAFL election process Matt Excell has been elected by the membership to a seat on the BUAFL Board.
Andy Fuller, BUAFL Chief Executive, commented "First and foremost I would like to congratulate Matt on his election.
"I believe the BUAFL has gained a Board member of high calibre who will play an integral role in the future development of the sport."
Fuller added "Whilst I am delighted that Matt has been elected the election process has raised some issues which will need to be addressed in the long term. Ideally I would have liked to have seen more candidates stand for election. However, my principle concern is that only one team voted. Clearly we need to work to ensure that all teams are enfranchised in the democratic process".
Speaking about his election BUAFL Board Member Matt Excell said "I'm looking forward to getting stuck into working to drive University football forward, especially some of the projects I hope to run which should make BUSA membership that much closer a reality.
"Whilst I am disappointed that more students didn't take what I see as a great opportunity to get involved, I hope that I can prove in my year on the Board that the student voice is important and does have a lot to contribute so that more will take the opportunity in future."
Regarding the vacant position of Policy Team Member Fuller stated "At this point I am not looking to reopen nominations. I anticipate working closely with Dr. Argent on strategy development and will look to utilise the skills and knowledge of Matt in this area where appropriate."
The BUAFL would like to thank Mark Foster from Sheffield Student's Union for acting as an external verifier during the election process.
